The achievement gap, as defined by Education Week, refers to the disparity in academic performance between groups of students. The achievement gap shows up in grades, standardized-test scores, course selection, dropout rates, and college-completion rates, among other success measures.
The National Education Association reports that closing achievement gaps is complex and challenging. But, many school districts have had success in addressing the issue with strategies that address building school and classroom environments that support learning.
